Trivia Night Recap

Updated: Feb 26, 2022

A night full of food, trivia, socializing, and coming together for a great cause. What could be better?

The Brookings Colorectal Cancer Awareness Program hosted a trivia night at Wooden Legs Brewing Company in downtown Brookings on April 6, 2021. The trivia featured 10 rounds of questions with two of the rounds focused on colorectal cancer. Each round contained five questions on a variety of topics. Teams were socially distanced and answered questions on whiteboards.

Points were awarded for each question answered correctly. At the end of the night, the top three winners received customized BCCAP bottle openers. We also gave everyone at Wooden Legs a free BCCAP sticker. Donations were accepted at the organization’s table and were directed toward the Brookings Health System Foundation.

A majority of the attendees at our event were current students at South Dakota State University. The target audience for this campaign is young adults ages 21-30. We chose this age group due to the recent upward trend in diagnosed colorectal cancer cases. Nebraska Medicine discussed this topic sharing that they have seen an 11 percent increase in cases for people between the ages of 20 to 50.

Our goal for the first BCCAP public event was to raise awareness in an informal setting. We are grateful for the support from our Wooden Legs hosts and the Brookings community as well. This event is just the beginning for the organization. Future possibilities include additional trivia nights, a 5K run and more. To stay connected with our organization, please continue to check the website and social media accounts (@brookingsccap and Brookings Colorectal Cancer Awareness Program) for updates.
