Don’t let yourself be a statistic.

Sydney Hoier and Oakley Jandreau

Are you over the age of 45 and still too afraid to be screened for colorectal cancer? Don’t be! Colonoscopies are simple and effective procedures that can be lifesaving. Here’s how they work.

A few days before your procedure, there may be a specific diet that you need to follow which is low in fiber. Often, you will need to take some version of a laxative to ensure that your large intestine is as clean as possible. This will allow your healthcare provider to see clearly during the procedure.

A colonoscopy takes less than an hour. After receiving an anesthetic, your healthcare provider will insert a scope with a camera attached through your anus and into your large intestine, which includes your rectum and colon.

At the end of your procedure, you will be monitored for a short time before being sent home. Make sure you have a responsible driver with you as the anesthesia from your procedure won’t wear off in time for you to drive yourself.

Colonoscopies are lifesaving and 100% worth your time. Don’t succumb to the fear, get a colonoscopy!
